Description

The HAYSTIX® 396TXJ 39 inch tapered hay fork is a complete assembly for building or repairing a properly designed bale-handling attachment. It combines a 1.375 inch Conus I tine with the matching 110T weld-in spear sleeve and PRO-Link’s patented Doublenut® retaining hardware. The individual spear is rated at 1,700 pounds at a 30 inch load center.

Its medium-length profile gives operators more engagement than a 33 inch multipurpose tine without the extra reach of the 43 inch 436TXJ. That balance can work well in compact hay movers, grouped-tine frames, and custom carriers where bale size, available clearance, and frame geometry call for a 39 inch spear.

39 Inch Tapered Hay Fork for Dense Bales

The gradual Conus I profile separates compressed bale fibers as the point enters the material. Its smaller 1.375 inch body creates less shaft contact than a larger-diameter spear, which can help the tine withdraw from tightly packed, wet, or dense hay. This supports smoother loading, feeding, stacking, and placement of suitable round bales, compact square bales, straw, silage, and other baled feed.

Spear length should be matched to the bale and attachment rather than chosen only for maximum reach. The 396TXJ must enter a stable portion of the bale deeply enough for controlled handling, but its point should not extend into an unsafe area beyond the load. Operators should keep the bale low during travel, move carefully across uneven ground, and avoid sudden turns or stops.

The square shank allows the tine to be oriented for the frame layout before the nuts are secured. In a multi-spear carrier, consistent projection, spacing, and alignment help the tines engage the bale together. Adding more spears does not automatically increase attachment capacity; the frame must be designed and rated for the complete arrangement.

When fabricated into a compatible attachment, the 396TXJ may be used with tractor front-end loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, or compact agricultural equipment. These machine categories do not guarantee fit. The carrier’s structure, coupler, sleeve position, operating clearance, tine spacing, attachment weight, and machine limits must all support the planned application.

Installing the 110T Sleeve and Doublenut® Hardware

The supplied 110T collar is intended for permanent installation in suitable steel tubing or another properly supported frame location. Remove the spear, conical nut, and jam nut before welding. A qualified fabricator should determine the collar direction, projection, alignment, supporting steel, joint preparation, and welding procedure. The sleeve must remain correctly positioned so the spear seats fully and lines up with any neighboring tines.

After the frame cools, inspect the collar and remove dirt, corrosion, weld spatter, or debris that could interfere with the taper. Insert the Conus I shank into the sleeve. Tightening the conical nut draws the matching tapered surfaces together, while the jam nut locks against the first nut to help resist vibration-related loosening. The Doublenut® bale spear mounting guide explains the system and its inspection points in greater detail.

If the tine later needs replacement while the installed collar, frame, and welds remain serviceable, the S396TXJ replacement bale spear provides the corresponding spear-only option. Confirm the complete taper, threads, nut arrangement, seating depth, and clearance before reusing any sleeve.

The 1,700 pound rating applies to the individual spear at the specified load center. The lowest-rated part of the loader, coupler, frame, welds, sleeve, hardware, or tine sets the working limit of the completed system. Inspect those components regularly and stop operation if anything is loose, bent, cracked, distorted, or badly worn. The 396TXJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete terms.

Questions & Answers

What comes with the 396TXJ assembly?

It includes the 39 inch by 1.375 inch Conus I spear, compatible 110T weld-in sleeve, conical retaining nut, and jam nut.

What makes the 396TXJ different from the S396TXJ?

The 396TXJ is the complete assembly with a new sleeve and retaining hardware. The S396TXJ is a spear-only replacement for a compatible, serviceable mounting system.

Does the 396TXJ fit every tractor or skid steer hay frame?

No. Installation requires welding and fabrication. Verify the frame design, coupler, sleeve position, clearance, tine spacing, weld quality, and capacity of the complete machine and attachment.
