Description

246CXJ 24-Inch Curved Bale Spear with 110T Sleeve

The HAYSTIX® 246CXJ 24-inch curved bale spear is a complete tapered tine-and-sleeve assembly for a properly designed hay-handling attachment. Measuring 24 inches long by 1.375 inches in diameter, this compact multipurpose spear is rated at 1,800 pounds at a 30-inch load center. Its deliberate curved profile and shorter reach can suit stabilizer positions, secondary support locations, and specialty frames used where a longer primary spear is unnecessary.

The 246CXJ includes the compatible 110T weld-in sleeve or collar and PRO-Link’s Doublenut® retaining hardware. Unlike an “S” model sold as a bare tine, this assembly supplies both the spear and its mounting component. It can be used in a new fabricated frame or in a repair that requires changing the existing tine and collar together.

Compact Curved Tine for Specialty Bale Frames

The 24-inch reach gives fabricators and equipment owners a shorter option for an engineered multi-tine arrangement. Depending on the attachment design, a compact tine may serve as a stabilizer, help support a bale alongside longer spears, or fit a specialty frame intended for close working areas. The curved geometry can also provide a different approach or clearance around the frame, feeders, barns, trailers, and other confined locations.

This bend is part of the product’s intended shape and should not be confused with accidental deformation. During inspection, compare the tine with its correct curved profile. Stop using it if the shaft develops a new bend, twist, crack, damaged point, thread problem, or other change beyond the original geometry. The 246CXJ is designed for handling suitable bales, not for prying, digging, or lifting unrelated materials.

The tapered point gradually separates compressed fibers as it enters suitable round or square bales. Its 1.375-inch body provides a slimmer profile than PRO-Link’s larger standard spear families and may be used with hay, straw, alfalfa, silage, or other baled feed when the finished carrier is designed for the material. Operators should engage a stable portion of the bale and keep the load low during travel.

Installing the 110T Collar and Doublenut® System

The included 110T sleeve is designed to be welded into suitable steel in a properly engineered bale-spear frame. Remove the tine and retaining hardware before welding so fabrication heat does not affect those components. A qualified fabricator should determine collar orientation, surrounding steel, alignment, clearances, weld procedure, tine spacing, and finished frame strength before installation.

Once the installed collar has cooled, the tapered shank seats inside the sleeve. Tightening the first nut draws the taper firmly into position. The second nut locks against the first to help resist loosening from vibration and repeated bale-handling cycles. The square shank lets the installer orient the curved tine in the direction required by the attachment design before final tightening.

Depending on the completed frame and coupler, the 246CXJ may be incorporated into bale handlers carried by tractors, compact-tractor front-end loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, or custom agricultural equipment. These machine categories describe potential applications, not universal direct fit. Compatibility depends on the attachment structure, coupler, sleeve placement, tine orientation, clearances, welds, and all applicable equipment ratings.

The published 1,800-pound capacity applies to the individual spear at the specified load center. It does not establish the capacity of the loader, attachment, frame, coupler, sleeve, or finished bale carrier. Bale weight also varies with size, density, moisture, and material. Always follow the lowest-rated component in the complete system.

Inspect the point, shaft, taper, nuts, collar, frame, and welds before use. Stop operating if anything is loose, cracked, excessively worn, improperly seated, or otherwise damaged. PRO-Link covers the 246CXJ with a one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete warranty terms.

Questions & Answers

Does the 246CXJ include the mounting sleeve?

Yes. The complete assembly includes the 24-inch curved tapered tine, compatible 110T weld-in sleeve or collar, and Doublenut® retaining hardware.

Where can a 24-inch curved bale spear be used?

It may suit stabilizer positions, secondary tine locations, or specialty multi-spear frames that do not require the reach of a longer primary spear. The complete attachment must be designed and rated for that configuration.

Will the 246CXJ fit any tractor or skid-steer bale attachment?

No. Verify the frame, coupler, collar placement, curve orientation, tine spacing, clearances, fabrication, and total system capacity before installation or use.
