Description

49BX 49-Inch Bracketed Hay Spike with 175BU Bracket

The HAYSTIX® 49BX 49-inch bracketed hay spike is a complete bolt-on assembly for mounting a heavy-duty bale spear to compatible 3-inch by 3-inch frame tubing. It combines a straight 49-inch by 1.75-inch square-profile spear with the 175BU bracket, two 58X3U U-bolt assemblies, and the required fastening hardware. Rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center, the 49BX is built for moving properly sized round bales, square bales, straw, silage, and other baled feed.

The 49BX is a cross-hole spear, not a tapered or nut-fastened model. A cross-bolt secures the spear inside the 175BU bracket, while the two U-bolts attach the bracket to the frame. Keeping those two fastening methods separate helps buyers identify the correct parts and understand how the complete assembly installs.

Cross-Bolt Spear with a U-Bolt Frame Mount

The straight spear slides into the 175BU bracket until the retaining holes align. The cross-bolt then passes through both the bracket and spear to hold the tine in position. This connection does not use a Conus II taper, conical nut, Doublenut® system, or separate tapered sleeve.

Two 58X3U U-bolt assemblies secure the bracket to compatible 3-inch by 3-inch square tubing. Each U-bolt wraps around the frame and tightens with its matching nuts and washers. The mounting surface should be straight, undamaged, and able to support the bracket evenly. Hardware must be installed and tightened correctly, then checked again after the attachment has been placed in service.

The bolt-on arrangement keeps the mounting components accessible for inspection and maintenance. If the spear must later be serviced, the cross-bolt can be removed without cutting the bracket from the frame. Correct serviceability still depends on the condition of the spear, bracket, U-bolts, cross-bolt, frame tubing, and surrounding structure.

Heavy Bale Handling on Compatible Attachments

The 49-inch reach allows the spear to engage deeply in suitable large bales during feeding, staging, stacking, transport, and trailer loading. Its straight square profile is designed for the matching cross-hole bracket system. In multi-spear arrangements, proper spacing and alignment help the tines share the work and maintain controlled bale support.

When correctly mounted, this 49-inch bracketed hay spike may be used on bale carriers attached to tractor front-end loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, three-point systems, or other suitable agricultural equipment. The 49BX does not mount directly to every machine in those categories. Compatibility depends on the attachment’s 3-inch by 3-inch tubing, frame design, bracket position, coupler, clearances, spear spacing, and structural rating.

The published 3,500-pound rating applies to the individual spear at the stated load center. It does not establish or increase the capacity of the completed attachment, loader, telehandler, tractor, or skid steer. Bale weight varies with size, moisture, density, and material, so operators must follow the lowest applicable equipment rating.

Before each work period, inspect the spear point, shaft, cross-hole, retaining bolt, 175BU bracket, U-bolts, nuts, washers, and frame tubing. Stop using the assembly if anything is loose, bent, cracked, stretched, distorted, or excessively worn. PRO-Link covers the 49BX with a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to the complete warranty terms.

Questions & Answers

Is the 49BX tapered or cross-bolted?

The 49BX is a straight cross-hole spear. A cross-bolt passes through aligned holes in the spear and 175BU bracket to retain the tine.

How does the 175BU bracket attach to the frame?

Two 58X3U U-bolts wrap around compatible 3-inch by 3-inch square tubing and secure the bracket with nuts and washers.

Will this 49-inch bracketed hay spike fit every loader attachment?

No. Verify the tubing dimensions, frame condition, bracket position, spear spacing, coupler, clearances, and total equipment capacity before installation.
