Description

The FEP64X72 72 inch forklift extensions add temporary working length to compatible 4 inch wide pallet forks. Each extension measures 72 inches overall and slides over an existing fork blade, giving operators more support beneath long, uniform loads without permanently replacing their standard forks. The supporting forks must be at least 48 inches long.

These extensions are useful for occasional handling of lumber, pipe, trusses, long pallets, sheet material, fencing, and bundled agricultural or construction supplies. They extend the load-supporting surface, but they do not increase the rated lifting capacity of the forklift, loader, fork frame, or original forks. Buyers can compare other lengths and fit options in PRO-Link’s pallet fork extension category.

72 Inch Fork Extensions for Compatible 4 Inch Forks

Correct fit begins with the original fork blades. Measure the horizontal blade from the inside face of the shank at the heel to the tip. That length must be at least 48 inches for the FEP64X72. Next, confirm that each blade is 4 inches wide and that its thickness and profile will fit inside the extension channel.

Do not select extensions using the machine model alone. Forklifts, skid steer fork frames, tractor-loader attachments, telehandlers, and other material-handling machines may use different fork lengths, widths, thicknesses, tapers, and capacities. Do not grind, heat, bend, or otherwise modify a fork or extension to make mismatched components fit.

The PRO-Link guide to choosing pallet fork extensions explains how to measure the base forks and compare the available 72 inch and 96 inch models.

The FEP64X72 provides:

  • A matched pair of 72 inch steel fork extensions
  • Compatibility with properly sized 4 inch wide forks
  • A required minimum supporting-fork length of 48 inches
  • Open-channel construction for slide-on installation
  • Heel-retention components that secure behind the fork heel
  • A black powder coat finish for surface protection

Open-Channel Installation and Responsible Load Handling

To install the extensions, park the machine on stable ground, lower the forks, and secure the equipment against unintended movement. Inspect the original forks and extensions for cracks, bending, heavy wear, damaged welds, or distorted retention parts. Slide each open channel fully over its supporting fork, then engage the heel-retention system behind the fork heel. Confirm that both extensions are seated evenly and cannot move forward before testing the setup without a load.

Fork extensions work best with stable, uniform loads that are supported along the blades. Loads should not rest mainly on the extension tips or extend beyond them. These extensions are not lifting booms and should not be used to suspend loads from their ends.

Longer forks and longer materials can move the load’s center of gravity farther away from the machine. This added leverage may reduce usable lifting capacity and affect steering, braking, stability, and turning clearance. The lowest-rated part of the complete system determines the safe working limit, including the machine, carriage or attachment frame, original forks, extensions, and retention system.

Keep loads centered, balanced, and as close to the fork backs as the approved setup allows. Travel with the load low, start and stop gradually, and allow additional room near racks, trailers, walls, gates, people, and other equipment. Inspect the extensions and retention system regularly during use. ALLPROFORKS provides additional fork-extension selection and safety information.

Questions & Answers

Will FEP64X72 extensions fit 4 inch forks of any length?

No. The original forks must be 4 inches wide and at least 48 inches long. Blade thickness, taper, condition, capacity, and heel-retention fit must also be confirmed before installation.

Do 72 inch forklift extensions increase lifting capacity?

No. They add reach and support beneath longer loads but do not raise the capacity of the machine, frame, or original forks. Moving the load center forward may reduce usable lifting capacity.

What warranty covers the FEP64X72?

The extensions are covered by the PRO-Link one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects under the published terms. Normal wear, misuse, overloading, improper fit, unauthorized modification, and use outside the intended purpose are not covered.
