U448-48 Skid Steer Square Bale Mover – Universal Attach
$1,025.00
The USA-made AG-GO U448-48 is a universal quick-attach square bale mover with a wide load backrest and four-spear layout. Available frame-only or with four S48T 48 inch tapered Hayspears®, each rated individually at 3,000 pounds at a 30 inch load center.
Description
The AG-GO U448-48 skid steer square bale mover is a wide, heavy-duty attachment designed for handling large square hay bales with a properly matched skid steer or loader. Its reinforced frame, integrated load backrest, and four-spear arrangement provide broad bale engagement for lifting, carrying, feeding, stacking, and staging work around farms and livestock operations.
Customers can order the U448-48 as a frame-only attachment or choose the spear package with four S48T 48 inch tapered bale spears. The frame-only option does not include the main spears, so verify the selected package before purchasing. Other mounting systems and bale-handling configurations can be compared in the AG-GO hay spear attachments category.
AG-GO manufactures the U448-48 frame in the USA at PRO-Link’s production facility. Its wide construction is intended to support the broad face of a large square bale while giving the operator controlled positioning during daily agricultural work.
Wide Four-Spear Support for Large Square Hay Bales
The reinforced frame spaces four spear locations across the attachment instead of concentrating the load around one or two central points. When the bale is engaged correctly, the spears enter across a wider portion of its face. This arrangement helps balance the bale, limit rotation, and reduce unwanted shifting during lifting and transport.
An integrated load backrest supports the square bale after it has been engaged. Keeping the bale positioned against the frame helps the operator maintain more predictable control while moving through barns, feedlots, storage yards, and feeding areas. The backrest is especially useful during starts, stops, changes in direction, and travel across uneven farm ground.
The U448-48 may be used with common large square bale formats such as approximately 3 foot by 3 foot, 3 foot by 4 foot, or 4 foot by 4 foot bales when the bale’s full dimensions and weight suit the attachment and machine. These measurements normally describe the bale’s cross-section; bale length can vary. Buyers should confirm the actual bale size, weight, condition, and intended spear placement rather than choosing the attachment from a size name alone.
Suitable baled materials may include:
- Dry grass hay for routine livestock feeding
- Dense alfalfa and mixed-forage bales
- Large square straw bales used for feed or bedding
- Cornstalk and other properly compressed crop-residue bales
- Wet, frozen, or higher-moisture forage when the complete system can safely manage the weight
Moisture, crop type, baler pressure, storage conditions, and bale density can create major weight differences between bales with similar outside dimensions. Wet or tightly compressed alfalfa can place much greater demand on the loader than a dry straw bale of the same nominal size.
Approach the square bale straight and align the four spears across sound, stable material. Uneven engagement can place more load on one portion of the attachment and make the bale harder to control. Insert the tines deeply, tilt the load toward the backrest, and check that the bale is centered before traveling.
Common applications include moving large square bales from field storage, loading or unloading trailers, staging hay near barns, placing feed for livestock, organizing bale stacks, and relocating straw for bedding. Adequate aisle width, overhead clearance, and visibility are important when working near buildings or stacked material.
Universal Quick Attach and Four 48 Inch Tapered Spears
The universal quick-attach plate connects to skid steers and compatible loaders equipped with the matching skid steer-style carrier. “Universal” identifies the common connection pattern, but it does not mean the frame fits every machine. Carrier dimensions, locking-pin operation, lift-arm geometry, hydraulic performance, and working clearance must be confirmed before ordering.
Before lifting, make sure the carrier plate is fully seated and both locking pins extend completely through their retaining points. Inspect the quick-attach plate, frame, load backrest, welds, spear collars, and fastening hardware for cracking, distortion, looseness, or excessive wear. Never use a damaged attachment or work beneath a raised bale.
The optional package includes four S48T 48 inch tapered hay spears. Each Hayspears® tine has a 1.625 inch dual-side fluted profile and an individual published rating of 3,000 pounds at a 30 inch load center with a stated 3:1 safety factor.
The tapered points enter compacted bale material progressively, while the fluted sides help reduce resistance during insertion and removal. Each tapered mounting shank must seat correctly in its matching sleeve or collar and be secured with the specified nut hardware. Position the fluted sides parallel to the ground and inspect the points, shafts, tapers, threads, nuts, and collars regularly.
Four individual 3,000 pound spear ratings must not be added together and advertised as a 12,000 pound attachment capacity. The safe working limit is determined by the lowest-rated part of the completed system, including the spears, sleeves, mounting hardware, frame, welds, quick-attach coupler, loader, machine, tires or tracks, and bale position.
The machine must have enough rated operating capacity and stability for the frame, four spears, and loaded square bale. Counterweight, lift height, forward reach, ground conditions, tire or track condition, and travel speed all affect control. Keep the bale low during transport and avoid sharp turns, sudden stops, side slopes, holes, ruts, drop-offs, and overhead hazards.

Questions & Answers
What type of bale is the U448-48 designed to move?
The U448-48 is a skid steer square bale mover designed for large square hay, straw, and suitable forage bales. Actual compatibility depends on the bale’s complete dimensions, weight, density, condition, and the machine’s operating limits.
What comes with the U448-48?
Customers can select the frame-only attachment or the spear package. The spear package includes four S48T 48 inch tapered Hayspears®. The frame-only purchase does not include the main spears.
Does the universal quick attach fit every skid steer?
No. The machine must have a matching skid steer-style carrier, properly operating locking pins, enough clearance, and sufficient lift capacity and stability for the attachment and loaded square bale.
