U249-49 Heavy Duty Skid Steer Hay Attachment – Universal
$775.00
The USA-made AG-GO U249-49 is a 245 pound universal quick-attach frame for handling one large, dense round bale. Available frame-only or with two 49 inch SM49TXJ tapered HAYSTIX® spears rated individually at 3,500 pounds at a 30 inch load center.
Description
The AG-GO U249-49 heavy duty skid steer hay attachment is built for operators who regularly move large, dense round bales. Its reinforced single-bale frame, increased rollback, load backrest, and optional HAYSTIX® spears support controlled feeding, stacking, transport, and staging work.
Customers can order the U249-49 as a frame-only attachment or with two SM49TXJ 49 inch tapered bale spears. The frame-only option excludes the main spears, so confirm the package before ordering. The listed attachment weight is approximately 245 pounds.
AG-GO manufactures the U249-49 in the USA at PRO-Link’s production facility. Its heavier construction and spear package distinguish it from the lighter U248-48 while keeping the convenience of a universal skid steer quick-attach connection for properly matched machines.
Heavy Frame, Increased Rollback, and Universal Quick Attach
The kicked-out coupler base increases rollback after the bale is engaged. Tilting back brings the load toward the skid steer and helps reduce forward leverage when lifting from storage, crossing a feedlot, or placing hay into a feeder.
An integrated load backrest supports the bale behind the spears and helps limit movement during starts, stops, turns, and uneven travel. It does not replace proper spear engagement, but it helps keep the bale in a more predictable position.
The universal quick-attach plate fits skid steers and compact loaders with the matching skid steer-style coupler. “Universal” describes the connection pattern, not guaranteed fit with every machine. Carrier plates, locking pins, lift arms, capacity, and clearance can differ.
Before operating the attachment, confirm that:
- The coupler plate seats fully against the attachment
- Both locking pins extend through their retaining points
- The carrier plate and locking system are not bent or badly worn
- The machine has enough lift and tilt capacity for the attachment and bale
- Tires, tracks, ballast, and ground conditions support the complete load
- The bale can be carried without blocking critical visibility or clearance
The 245 pound attachment is only part of the operating load. Rated operating capacity must account for the frame, spears, bale, operator, fuel, ballast, and other equipment. Load distance also affects leverage; a machine may have less usable capacity as the bale moves farther forward.
Inspect the connection before lifting. A partially engaged locking pin can allow separation from the carrier. Follow the machine manufacturer’s procedure and check the coupler from outside the cab when safely parked.
Dual 49 Inch HAYSTIX® Spears for Large, Dense Bales
The optional package includes two SM49TXJ 49 inch tapered bale spears. Each HAYSTIX® tine has a 1.75 inch square tapered profile and an individual published rating of 3,500 pounds at a 30 inch load center. The long spear provides deep engagement, while the two-tine layout distributes contact across the bale and helps reduce unwanted rotation.
The tapered mounting end must seat correctly in its matching collar and use the specified nut system. The SM49TXJ uses a compatible Conus II taper and Doublenut® retention. Inspect the seats, threads, nuts, collars, and frame regularly because damaged mounting parts can prevent proper seating.
This configuration handles one properly positioned round bale. Common sizes include approximately 4 foot by 5 foot, 5 foot by 5 foot, and 5 foot by 6 foot bales. These are examples, not guaranteed fit claims. Suitability depends on bale dimensions, weight, density, condition, and engagement.
The U249-49 can handle suitable dry grass hay, alfalfa, mixed hay, straw, cornstalks, and other forage. Wet hay, frozen bales, silage, and haylage can weigh substantially more than dry material of the same size, so check actual weight carefully.
Do not add the two spear ratings and claim a 7,000 pound attachment capacity. The lowest-rated spear, collar, nut, frame, weld, coupler, loader, machine, tire or track, or bale position controls the usable limit.
Common U249-49 jobs include:
- Carrying a large round bale from storage to a feeder
- Moving dense hay or baled forage between farm locations
- Staging bales near barns, feeding lanes, or livestock lots
- Placing hay for cattle and other livestock
- Organizing stored round bales with a compatible skid steer
Approach squarely and insert both spears evenly into sound material. Keep the bale centered and low during travel. Avoid sudden stops, fast turns, side slopes, holes, ruts, drop-offs, and raised loads. Lower the attachment before leaving the machine.
Compare other configurations in the AG-GO hay spear attachments category. Lighter daily work may suit the U248-48 light duty skid steer hay frame with smaller Hayspears®. The U249-49 carries PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects.
Questions & Answers
What is included with the U249-49?
Customers can choose a frame-only purchase or the spear package. The spear-package option includes two SM49TXJ 49 inch tapered HAYSTIX® spears. Confirm the selected option before ordering because the frame-only version does not include the main tines.
Will this heavy duty skid steer hay attachment fit every skid steer?
No. It requires a matching skid steer-style universal quick-attach coupler, properly operating locking pins, sufficient lift and tilt capacity, and adequate operating clearance. Machine brand alone does not confirm fit.
What sizes and types of round bales can the U249-49 move?
The dual 49 inch spears provide deep engagement in many large round bales, including commonly encountered 5 foot by 5 foot and 5 foot by 6 foot sizes. Dry hay, alfalfa, straw, wet hay, silage, and haylage may be suitable when their actual weight and condition remain within every attachment and machine limit.
