48SS Cross Bolt Bale Spike

The 48SS cross bolt bale spike is a 48-inch S48S hay spear designed for reliable, everyday handling of round and square bales. Measuring 1.625 inches in diameter and rated at 3,000 lbs at a 30-inch load center, it delivers strong performance while remaining lighter in weight than bulkier cross-bolt bale spikes.

Featuring a fluted spear design, the 48SS penetrates wet, tight, or dense bales with ease and releases cleanly during unloading. The fluted profile reduces overall spear weight without sacrificing strength, providing the same lifting capacity as heavier solid spears while improving handling efficiency.

Design, Installation, and Performance

The 48SS is supplied as a complete assembly, including the 155 weld-in sleeve, cross bolt, and nut. For proper installation, the sleeve must be welded into the attachment frame by itself—never weld the sleeve with the spear installed. Once welding is complete, the spear is inserted with the flutes oriented parallel to the ground, then secured using the provided cross bolt and hardware.
