The HAYSTIX® 55SX 55-inch cross-bolt bale spear is a complete spear-and-sleeve assembly for building or repairing compatible hay-handling frames. It combines a straight 55-inch by 1.75-inch square-profile hay tine with the matching 175 weld-in sleeve, cross-bolt, retaining nut, and related mounting hardware. Rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center, the 55SX provides extended bale engagement for large round bales, square bales, straw, silage, haylage, cornstalk bales, and other dense baled feed.

This is a cross-hole system, not a tapered or Doublenut® spear. The bolt passes through aligned holes in the spear and sleeve to hold the hay stab in place. That clear mounting distinction helps equipment owners and fabricators select the correct replacement parts while avoiding a mismatch with tapered collars or nut-tightened spears.

Straight Square Spear for Extended Bale Engagement

The 55-inch reach allows the spear to enter deeply into properly sized bales. This can help the attachment maintain contact while lifting a bale from the field, unloading a trailer, stacking hay, carrying feed to livestock, or positioning material around a farm or feedlot. The square shaft matches the straight cross-hole mounting design and must be oriented so the retaining holes line up correctly during installation.

This long hay spike may be incorporated into attachments carried by tractor front-end loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, wheel loaders, bale movers, and other suitable agricultural machines. For example, a bale spear for a tractor loader may move feed from storage to a pasture, while a skid steer hay stab can work in tighter barns, lots, and feeding areas. A front-end loader hay fork may provide the lift height and reach needed for stacking or trailer work.

These examples do not mean the 55SX mounts directly to every tractor, skid steer, or loader. It must be welded into a compatible hay frame with suitable structure, spear placement, spacing, coupler geometry, and operating clearance. Longer engagement does not replace correct operating practices. Bale control depends on the attachment angle, load location, frame design, terrain, speed, and whether stabilizer tines are required. Keep the bale low while traveling and avoid sudden turns, starts, or stops.

Installing the 175 Sleeve and Cross-Bolt

The included 175 weld-in sleeve is installed in suitable steel tubing or another properly supported frame location. Remove the spear and cross-bolt before welding. A qualified fabricator should determine the sleeve direction, projection, surrounding steel, alignment, and welding procedure for the completed attachment.

After the sleeve and frame cool, slide the straight spear into the collar until the cross holes align. Insert the correct bolt through both components and secure it with the retaining nut. The hardware should seat correctly without forcing misaligned holes together. Because the spear is mechanically retained, it can later be removed for inspection or replacement without cutting the sleeve from a serviceable frame.

The published 3,500-pound capacity applies to the individual bale tine at the stated load center. It does not establish or increase the rating of the 175 sleeve installation, welds, frame, coupler, loader, or carrying machine. Always follow the lowest applicable rating in the complete system.

Inspect the spear point, square shaft, cross hole, bolt, retaining nut, sleeve, welds, and frame before use. Stop operating if any component is loose, bent, cracked, stretched, distorted, or excessively worn.
