The HAYSTIX® SM55SX 55-inch replacement hay tine is the spear-only service part for compatible straight cross-hole mounting systems. It measures 55 inches long, has a 1.75-inch square profile, and carries a published capacity of 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center. Its extended reach suits operators replacing a worn tine in a serviceable hay frame used for feeding, transport, stacking, or trailer work.

The SM55SX does not include a sleeve, cross-bolt, retaining nut, or mounting hardware. PRO-Link supplies the corresponding complete 55SX assembly with the 175 weld-in collar. This replacement may also work with another properly fitting sleeve designed for the same straight 1.75-inch spear, provided its internal dimensions and cross holes align correctly.

Long Square Tine for Large and Dense Bales

The SM55SX is straight and non-tapered. Its point enters the bale ahead of the full square shaft, while the 55-inch length provides deep engagement in properly supported material. This can be useful when unloading trailers, carrying feed, stacking hay, or positioning bales in livestock-feeding areas.

Hay and feed materials differ significantly. Alfalfa, Bermuda grass, prairie hay, clover, wheat straw, mixed-grass hay, cornstalk bales, haylage, and silage can have different densities and moisture levels. Wet hay, wrapped forage, and tightly compressed material may weigh considerably more than dry hay of similar size.

The extended tine may be considered for common 5 × 5 or 5 × 6 round bales and large square or rectangular bales such as 3 × 4 or 4 × 4 sizes when the complete equipment setup is appropriate. Dimensions alone do not determine fit. Large square bales may require multiple spears, stabilizer tines, or a different spacing pattern. Operators must match the carrier to the bale’s actual weight, shape, density, and center of gravity.

When installed in the correct attachment, the SM55SX may replace a bale sticker in a tractor-loader frame, a hay stab in a skid-steer carrier, or a bale fork used with a suitable three-point system. It may also serve in compatible telehandler, wheel-loader, bale-mover, commercial feeding, or custom-fabricated equipment. AG-GO produces different hay-frame styles, but not every frame uses the same spear length, sleeve, or fastening method.

These machine applications do not establish universal fit. The frame must provide the correct collar, tine placement, spacing, structure, coupler geometry, operating clearance, and overall capacity for the machine and bale.

Cross-Bolt Fit, Inspection, and Replacement

Before installing this 55-inch replacement hay tine, inspect the existing sleeve, aligned holes, welds, and surrounding frame. Do not reuse a collar that is cracked, distorted, heavily corroded, excessively worn, loose, or unable to support the spear correctly. The 175 cross-hole sleeve is the matching PRO-Link option when the mount also needs replacement.

Slide the straight shaft into the compatible collar until both holes line up. Insert the correct cross-bolt through the sleeve and spear, then secure it with the applicable retaining nut. Never force the bolt through misaligned holes or substitute tapered nut-retention parts. Proper serviceability depends on the condition and fit of every mounting component.

Because the spear is mechanically retained, it can be removed from a usable sleeve without cutting that collar from the frame. This can reduce frame rework when only the hay spike has become worn or damaged. However, replacing the tine does not restore capacity to a weak sleeve, cracked weld, bent frame, or overloaded attachment.

The published 3,500-pound rating applies only to the individual spear at the stated load center. Follow the lowest rating of the sleeve, welds, frame, coupler, tractor, skid steer, loader, or other machine. Keep the load low while traveling and avoid sudden starts, stops, or turns.
