SM39FXJ 39 Inch Replacement Hay Stabber – Fluted Spear
$105.00
Spear-only 39 inch by 1.75 inch fluted SUPERSTIX® replacement for compatible Conus II collars. Rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30 inch load center.
Description
The HAYSTIX® SM39FXJ 39 inch replacement hay stabber is a spear-only tine for compatible bale-handling frames that already have a serviceable Conus II collar. Its 39 inch length and 1.75 inch four-sided SUPERSTIX® profile provide a compact fluted option for dense forage, feeding work, and equipment layouts where a longer spear would reduce maneuvering clearance. The individual tine is rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30 inch load center.
The SM prefix means the sleeve is not included. This listing also does not include the retaining nuts, attachment frame, or other mounting hardware. Buyers who need the spear, 144T weld-in sleeve, and Doublenut® hardware together should select the complete 39FXJ assembly.
39 Inch Replacement Hay Stabber for Dense Feed
Flutes run along all four sides of the shaft and narrow toward the point. This SUPERSTIX® design helps the tine enter compacted bale material progressively and is intended to reduce drag during withdrawal. That can help when unloading hay, breaking open a bale for feeding, placing material in a feeder, or working around stacked bales in confined areas.
The 39 inch reach may suit compact round bales, dense square feed bales, or properly engineered multi-spear carriers. It should not automatically be selected for every large round or rectangular bale. Bale width, density, moisture, weight, and center of gravity affect the penetration and support required. The operator must also consider tine spacing, stabilizer placement, attachment angle, and the machine’s approved capacity.
Dry grass hay, alfalfa, straw, cornstalk bales, silage, and haylage can differ considerably in weight and resistance. Wrapped baleage requires special care because a spear punctures the plastic. The University of Minnesota Extension’s wrapped hay guidance recommends a bale grabber for large individually wrapped bales unless they will be fed immediately. Use the SM39FXJ only when puncturing the wrap is acceptable for the intended feeding operation.
When installed in the correct carrier, the tine may serve tractor front-end loader frames, skid steer bale attachments, telehandler carriers, three-point bale movers, or custom feeding equipment. These are possible applications, not universal fit claims. The existing collar, frame, coupler, clearances, tine arrangement, and complete equipment rating must all be verified.
Matching a Conus II Collar and Installing the Spear
The 144T 1.75 inch Conus II sleeve is the verified collar included with the complete 39FXJ. The replacement spear is not restricted to the 144T by product number. Another properly supported sleeve may work when its internal taper, seating depth, threads, alignment, and nut clearance match correctly. A nominal 1.75 inch opening alone does not establish compatibility. The bale spear sleeves and collars guide explains how tapered mounts differ from straight cross-bolt systems.
Before installation, inspect the existing sleeve, surrounding frame, and welds. Do not reuse a collar that is loose, cracked, distorted, heavily corroded, excessively worn, or unable to seat the tapered shank. Replace any missing or damaged nuts with the correct hardware for the matched system.
Insert the Conus II mounting end through the serviceable collar. The correct conical retaining nut draws the tapered surfaces together, and the jam nut locks against it to help resist vibration-related loosening. Follow the applicable installation instructions and provide adequate clearance behind the frame for both nuts. The Doublenut® mounting guide provides additional seating and inspection information.
The published rating applies only to the individual tine. Follow the lowest rating among the spear, sleeve, hardware, welds, frame, coupler, loader, and machine. Stop operating if any component becomes loose, bent, cracked, distorted, or excessively worn. The SM39FXJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete terms.
Questions & Answers
What is included with the SM39FXJ?
The SM39FXJ includes the 39 inch fluted replacement spear only. The sleeve, retaining nuts, attachment frame, and other mounting hardware are not included.
How does the SM39FXJ differ from the 39FXJ?
The SM39FXJ is the spear-only replacement. The complete 39FXJ includes the fluted tine, 144T weld-in collar, and applicable Doublenut® hardware.
Can the SM39FXJ fit any 1.75 inch sleeve?
No. The collar must match the Conus II taper, seating depth, threads, nut clearance, alignment, and structural support. Inside diameter alone cannot confirm fit.
