Description
SM49TXJ 49-Inch Replacement Bale Spear – Tapered Hay Tine
The HAYSTIX® SM49TXJ 49-inch replacement bale spear is the spear-only version of PRO-Link’s leading-selling 49TXJ assembly. Measuring 49 inches long with a 1.75-inch square tapered profile, it is rated for 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center. This heavy-duty hay tine gives farmers, ranchers, equipment owners, and fabricators a practical way to replace a worn spear while continuing to use a serviceable sleeve and properly designed hay frame.
The SM49TXJ does not include a sleeve or collar. It is intended for a compatible mounting system that correctly seats a 1.75-inch tapered bale spear. Although the PRO-Link 144T is one suitable collar, the spear is not limited to that specific sleeve. This makes the SM49TXJ useful for repairs involving other properly fitting collars as well as AG-GO hay frames designed around compatible sleeve-mounted spears.
Square Tapered Profile for Everyday Bale Work
The SM49TXJ has the square HAYSTIX® profile rather than the fluted shape used on select FX models. Its gradually tapered point enters packed hay progressively, helping the bale stab penetrate and withdraw without forcing the full shaft width through the material at once. The 49-inch reach provides deep engagement for moving suitable round bales, square bales, straw, silage, haylage, and other baled feed.
This best-selling hay tine design can support common jobs such as unloading trailers, carrying bales to livestock, stacking hay, and placing feed into rings or feeders. Bale control still depends on correct spear spacing, frame position, machine angle, travel speed, terrain, and where the load rests on the tine. Operators should keep the bale low while traveling and avoid sudden starts, stops, or turns.
When installed in the correct attachment, the SM49TXJ may serve as a bale spear for tractor loaders, a skid steer hay stabber, or a front-end loader hay fork. It may also be incorporated into suitable telehandler, wheel-loader, bale-mover, and custom-fabricated frames. These machine phrases describe potential applications, not universal fit. The tractor, skid steer, or loader must carry a compatible hay frame with the proper sleeve, structure, spacing, coupler, clearance, and equipment capacity.
AG-GO offers multiple styles of hay-handling frames that use sleeves and bale spears in their setups. This gives buyers additional frame possibilities when matching the SM49TXJ to the machine and job. Confirm the specific AG-GO frame configuration before ordering because not every frame uses the same spear size or mounting method.
Sleeve Compatibility and Tapered Mounting
A reusable sleeve must have the correct inside diameter, seating depth, internal condition, surrounding support, and clearance for the tapered shank and applicable nut system. Before installing this replacement hay spear, inspect the collar for cracks, distortion, heavy corrosion, excess internal wear, or damage that could prevent the mounting end from seating correctly.
The tapered shank passes through the compatible sleeve. Tightening the appropriate retaining nuts draws the spear into its seat and helps hold it securely during normal bale-handling cycles. This mounting method differs from a straight cross-hole bale stabber, which uses a bolt through aligned holes in the spear and sleeve. Buyers should match the mounting style as well as the 1.75-inch size.
The 144T tapered bale-spear sleeve is available when a PRO-Link collar is preferred or the existing sleeve also needs replacement. Customers needing the spear, 144T collar, and applicable Doublenut® mounting system together should choose the complete HAYSTIX® 49TXJ assembly.
The 3,500-pound rating applies to the individual tine at the stated load center. It does not increase the capacity of the sleeve, hay frame, welds, coupler, loader, tractor, or skid steer. Always follow the lowest rating in the complete system. Inspect the point, square shaft, taper, threads, nuts, sleeve, and frame regularly. PRO-Link covers the SM49TXJ with a one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete warranty terms.
Questions & Answers
Is the SM49TXJ compatible only with the 144T sleeve?
No. The spear can be used with another properly fitting sleeve that seats its 1.75-inch tapered mounting profile. Verify the complete mounting fit before installation.
Is a sleeve included with this 49-inch replacement bale spear?
No. The SM49TXJ is the spear-only configuration. Choose the complete 49TXJ assembly when a 144T sleeve and the applicable mounting system are also required.
What machines can use the SM49TXJ hay tine?
It may be installed in compatible tractor-loader, skid-steer, front-end-loader, telehandler, wheel-loader, bale-mover, or AG-GO hay frames. Fit depends on the attachment and sleeve, not the machine category alone.
