Description

The AG-GO PHD-100F fish tail auger tip is a bolt-on replacement point for compatible post hole diggers and auger heads. Its ground-engaging profile contacts the soil before the cutting blades and flighting, helping the auger establish its starting position and begin tracking into the hole. Hardened steel construction supports repeated use in agricultural, fencing, landscaping, and construction work.

The PHD-100F uses a retaining bolt rather than a threaded connection. The tip fits into or against a compatible auger receiver, the mounting holes align, and the correct bolt secures the point in position. This allows the wear component to be serviced without welding or replacing an otherwise usable auger head. Fit still depends on the complete mounting geometry, so this part should not be selected by appearance alone.

Fish Tail Auger Tip for Controlled Ground Engagement

The fish tail shape provides multiple ground-contact edges at the leading end of the auger. Those edges can help establish the hole location and guide the cutting blades into the soil. Replacing a badly worn point can help restore the starting characteristics intended by the auger design.

The PHD-100F may be used for compatible applications such as:

  • Drilling holes for pasture, livestock, and property-line fencing
  • Setting gate posts, signs, poles, and agricultural structures
  • Preparing planting holes for trees and large shrubs
  • Maintaining farms, ranches, feedlots, and landscaped properties
  • Servicing commercial or agricultural post hole digger equipment

Large rocks, buried construction material, heavy roots, and other obstructions can damage the point, blades, flighting, receiver, or drive components. Stop the auger when it encounters something the equipment is not designed to cut instead of forcing the machine downward.

This replacement tip may be used on compatible tractor-mounted, three-point, skid steer, hydraulic, and other post hole digger systems. These equipment categories describe possible applications, not universal fit. The receiver shape, insertion depth, mounting-hole diameter, hole location, bolt size, clearance, and auger-head design must all match.

Bolt-On Installation, Fit Checks, and Auger Safety

Before removing the old point, shut down the power source, disengage the PTO or hydraulic drive, relieve stored energy, and support the auger so it cannot move unexpectedly. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s service procedure. Clean soil and rust from the receiver.

Check the original tip and receiver for:

  • Matching mounting-hole size and location
  • Correct insertion depth and seating surfaces
  • Adequate clearance around the blades and auger head
  • Cracks, distortion, or elongated holes in the receiver
  • The correct retaining bolt, nut, and locking method

Position the PHD-100F so the mounting holes align without forcing the parts together. Install the specified fastener and tighten it according to the auger manufacturer’s instructions. Do not drill out misaligned holes, substitute an unidentified bolt, or assume one torque value applies to every auger system. Mounting hardware should not be treated as included unless the current product package specifically states that it is supplied.

The PRO-Link post hole digger parts guide explains the differences among fish-tail points, screw-point tips, replacement blades, and complete auger heads. Buyers with a threaded receiver should compare the PHD-100FT threaded fish tail auger tip instead.

Before drilling, contact 811 to request underground utility markings. Operators should also review Ohio State University’s post hole digger safety guidance, keep shields installed, maintain a safe distance from rotating equipment, and shut down before making adjustments.

Inspect the fish tail point, mounting hole, bolt, receiver, blades, flighting, shaft, driveline, gearbox or hydraulic motor, and guards before operation. Replace loose, cracked, bent, chipped, or excessively worn parts. The PHD-100F is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete terms.

Questions & Answers

Is the PHD-100F fish tail auger tip threaded?

No. The PHD-100F uses bolt-on retention. Choose the PHD-100FT when the compatible auger requires a threaded fish-tail point.

Will the PHD-100F fit every post hole digger?

No. Verify the receiver shape, insertion depth, mounting-hole size and location, required fastener, operating clearance, and exact auger compatibility before ordering.

When should this auger point be replaced?

Replace it when the working edges become badly rounded, chipped, cracked, loose, bent, or unevenly worn. Inspect the mounting bolt, receiver, and cutting blades.
