The HAYSTIX® 39FXJ 39 inch fluted hay spike is a complete Conus II spear-and-sleeve assembly for bale frames that need a heavy-duty tine without the reach of a 49 inch or 55 inch model. It includes a 39 inch by 1.75 inch tapered SUPERSTIX spear, the matching 144T weld-in collar, and PRO-Link’s patented Doublenut® mounting hardware. The individual spear is rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30 inch load center.

Its medium working length provides six inches more reach than a 33 inch tine while remaining compact enough for feeding attachments, multi-spear carriers, and frames used in tighter farm spaces. The 39FXJ uses a four-sided fluted shaft rather than the traditional square profile found on many HAYSTIX® models. Its flutes run toward the point, while the gradual taper allows the hay spike to enter compressed material progressively. This shape can support controlled penetration and release when unloading trailers, placing hay in a feeder, stacking bales, or moving feed around a livestock operation.

Different forage materials place different demands on a bale spear. Alfalfa, grass hay, straw, cornstalk bales, silage, and haylage vary in moisture, density, and fiber structure. Installing the 144T Sleeve and Tapered Spear

The included 144T Conus II sleeve is welded into suitable structural steel in a properly designed frame. Remove the spear and retaining nuts before welding. A qualified fabricator should determine the collar’s orientation, projection, supporting steel, joint preparation, alignment, and welding procedure.

After the collar and frame cool, inspect the internal seat and remove any debris or weld spatter that could interfere with the connection. Insert the spear’s tapered mounting end through the sleeve. Tightening the conical retaining nut draws the matching surfaces together, and the secondary jam nut locks against it to help resist vibration-related loosening. Although the complete 39FXJ includes the 144T, the spear may fit another collar designed for the same 1.75 inch Conus II mounting profile. Verify the taper, seating depth, threads, nut clearance, alignment, and structural support rather than relying on diameter alone.
