Description

The HAYSTIX® 144T 1.75 inch tapered bale spear sleeve is a Conus II weld-in collar for mounting compatible heavy-duty hay tines in fabricated bale-handling frames. Its machined internal taper provides the matching seat for the spear’s mounting end, helping keep the tine aligned while the retaining nuts draw the connection together. The 144T may be used in a new bale carrier or to replace a damaged collar in an existing attachment built for the same mounting system.

This listing is for the sleeve only. It does not include a bale spear, retaining nuts, frame, or machine attachment. Buyers should match the complete Conus II profile rather than relying on the 1.75 inch diameter alone. The 144T is not interchangeable with a straight cross-hole collar such as the 175 sleeve.

Matching the 144T Collar to Compatible HAYSTIX® Spears

Verified complete PRO-Link spear assemblies supplied with the 144T include:

  • 33TXJ
  • 39FXJ
  • 43TXJ
  • 49FXJ
  • 49TXJ
  • 55TXJ

Corresponding S and SM replacement spears may also use a serviceable 144T when the tine has the correct 1.75 inch Conus II mounting end, threads, seating depth, and nut arrangement. An S or SM prefix means the replacement spear does not include a sleeve. Review the HAYSTIX® tapered spear selection when comparing complete assemblies and replacement tines.

Diameter alone does not confirm fit. A straight 1.75 inch cross-bolt spear uses a retaining bolt through aligned holes, while a Conus II spear seats against the internal taper and is secured from the rear with nuts. The bale spear sleeves and collars guide explains the differences among tapered and cross-bolt mounts and compares PRO-Link sleeve sizes.

When incorporated into a properly engineered frame, the 144T may be used in bale attachments carried by tractor front-end loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, wheel loaders, three-point equipment, or other suitable machines. These examples do not establish direct fit. Compatibility depends on the spear, sleeve position, frame construction, tine spacing, coupler, clearances, welds, and carrying machine.

Weld-In Installation and Conus II Spear Seating

Remove the spear, nuts, and other mounting hardware before welding the 144T into the frame. A qualified fabricator should determine the collar orientation, projection, supporting steel, joint preparation, alignment, and welding procedure. Welding presents fume, radiation, burn, electric-shock, and other hazards, so installers should follow appropriate controls and protective practices described in OSHA’s welding safety guidance.

After the collar and surrounding steel cool, inspect the opening and remove any dirt, scale, or weld spatter that could interfere with seating. Insert the matching Conus II end through the 144T. The conical retaining nut draws the spear firmly into the tapered seat, and the jam nut locks against the first nut to help resist loosening during repeated bale-handling cycles. The Doublenut® mounting guide provides more information about seating, inspection, and replacement.

The 144T does not determine the capacity of the completed attachment. Follow the lowest rating among the individual spears, sleeves, nuts, welds, frame, coupler, loader, and machine. Inspect the collar, internal seat, hardware, surrounding tubing, and welds regularly. Stop using the equipment if the sleeve is cracked, distorted, loose, badly worn, or unable to hold the spear correctly. The 144T is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete terms.

Questions & Answers

Which PRO-Link spears use the 144T sleeve?

Verified complete assemblies include the 33TXJ, 39FXJ, 43TXJ, 49FXJ, 49TXJ, and 55TXJ. A corresponding S or SM replacement may also fit when its complete Conus II mounting profile matches.

Will every 1.75 inch spear fit the 144T collar?

No. The spear must have the correct Conus II taper, seating depth, threads, dimensions, and nut system. Straight cross-hole spears require a different sleeve and mounting method.

Does the 144T include a spear or mounting nuts?

No. This product is the weld-in sleeve only. Select a complete spear assembly when a compatible tine, collar, and retaining hardware are all required.
