2AT47 47 inch Class 2 Top Rail | ITA Carriage Bar

The PRO-Link 2AT47 is a 47 inch Class 2 top rail designed for welding into a properly engineered pallet fork carriage or attachment frame. This upper carriage bar supports the top hooks of compatible ITA Class 2 forks and includes pre-cut locking notches for side-to-side fork positioning. Fabricators can use it in new skid steer or tractor-loader fork frames, custom material-handling attachments, and appropriately evaluated carriage repairs.

The 2AT47 is an individual fabrication component, not a complete pallet fork frame or direct bolt-on attachment. Correct use requires a matching lower rail, verified fork-hook geometry, accurate rail spacing, a suitable frame and coupler, and a qualified welding procedure. The finished carriage must be inspected and rated as a complete system because no independent lifting capacity is published for this top rail alone.

Upper-Hook Support and Fork-Lock Positions

On an ITA hook-type carriage, each fork’s upper hook hangs from the top rail. The fork-positioning lock engages one of the notches along the rail to hold the fork at the selected horizontal position. The 2AT47 arrives with those fork-lock notches pre-cut, allowing compatible forks to be repositioned for different pallet and load widths when their locks are released.

Before lifting, both fork locks must engage fully in the intended notches. A lock resting between positions, a damaged notch, or an incorrectly fitted upper hook can allow unwanted fork movement. The notches establish locking locations, but they do not confirm that every Class 2 fork fits the completed frame. Compare the rail profile, upper- and lower-hook dimensions, lock style, fork travel, and required carriage geometry with the actual forks.

The raised upper portion includes an industry-standard 20 degree chamfer that supports seating of a properly matched upper hook. Orientation and alignment matter. The rail should remain straight and parallel to the lower bar after fabrication so the forks can travel across the carriage without binding, rocking, or excessive clearance. The 47 inch width also needs to provide enough usable fork-spacing range for the intended loads.

Building with the 47 Inch Class 2 Top Rail

Use the 2AB47 Class 2 bottom rail as the corresponding lower component when the project calls for the matching 47 inch rail set. The 2AT47 carries the upper hooks and contains the lock positions, while the bottom rail engages the lower hooks. The off-center opening in the 2AB47 is a lower clip entry notch, not another series of fork-lock positions.

Rail selection is only part of carriage design. The fabricator must determine the frame steel, weld size and sequence, reinforcement, rail placement, coupler connection, clearances, and completed capacity for the intended machine and work. Excessive welding heat or poor fixturing can distort the rails and change fork fit. For a repair, inspect the surrounding frame for bends, cracks, wear, and misalignment before installing a new component.

After welding, verify that compatible forks install correctly, slide through the intended range, seat against both rails, and lock securely. The frame should receive an appropriate capacity evaluation and marking before entering service. A 47 inch rail changes carriage width and available fork spacing; it does not establish lifting capacity or increase the ratings of the machine, forks, coupler, or attachment.
