175 1.75 Inch Cross-Bolt Bale Spear Sleeve

The HAYSTIX® 175 1.75 inch cross-bolt bale spear sleeve is a weld-in collar for installing compatible straight, cross-hole hay tines in a properly designed bale-handling frame. A retaining bolt passes through aligned holes in the sleeve and spear, creating a serviceable connection that allows a damaged tine to be removed without cutting a usable collar from the frame.

This product is sometimes called a bolt on tine sleeve. That name describes how the spear is retained, not how the collar attaches to the frame. The 175 must be welded into suitable supporting steel. It is not a tapered Conus II sleeve, and it is not the 175BU bracket that fastens around frame tubing with U-bolts.

Cross-Hole Mounting for 49FX and 55SX Spears

The 175 has a 1.75 inch inside diameter and is the verified sleeve used in the complete 49FX 49 inch bolt-up hay spear and 55SX 55 inch cross-bolt bale spear assemblies. It may also be used when repairing a compatible frame for the corresponding SM49FX or SM55SX spear-only replacement. Exact mounting dimensions must be checked before components are combined.

A 1.75 inch inside diameter does not mean every 1.75 inch bale spear will fit. The tine must have a straight mounting section with the correct outside dimensions, insertion depth, cross-hole size, hole location, and hardware clearance. A tapered spear designed to seat in a Conus II collar and tighten with nuts cannot be substituted for a straight cross-bolt tine. Once installed in the correct frame, the sleeve may support hay attachments carried by tractor loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, three-point equipment, or other agricultural machines. These applications require fabrication and do not establish universal fit. Sleeve position, spear spacing, surrounding frame steel, coupler geometry, operating clearance, bale weight, and machine capacity must be evaluated as one system. Installing the 1.75 Inch Cross-Bolt Bale Spear Sleeve

Before welding, determine the collar’s direction, projection, spear angle, frame opening, and alignment with any other tines. Remove the spear, cross bolt, nut, and other mounting parts before heat is applied. A qualified fabricator should select the joint preparation, welding method, and surrounding support needed for the specific attachment. OSHA identifies fumes, ultraviolet radiation, burns, eye injuries, and electrical shock among the hazards addressed through proper practices and personal protective equipment in its welding safety guidance.

After the welds and surrounding frame have cooled, inspect the collar and remove weld spatter or debris that could interfere with installation. Slide the straight tine into the sleeve until the holes align naturally. Do not force a bolt through openings that are offset. Insert the specified cross bolt through both parts, secure it with the correct retaining nut, and confirm that the spear is fully supported and cannot move out of position.

During routine service, inspect the sleeve, cross hole, bolt, nut, spear, welds, and frame for looseness, elongated holes, cracks, bending, corrosion, or excessive wear. Replacing this collar cannot restore strength to damaged frame steel or an improperly designed attachment.
