Description

The HAYSTIX® 76CSJ 76 inch tapered cotton spike is a complete weld-in spear assembly for handling large round cotton bales, also known as round cotton modules. Its 2 inch diameter and 76 inch overall length provide extended engagement for purpose-built cotton frames used in fields, gin yards, storage areas, and processing operations. The complete assembly has a listed weight of approximately 65 pounds.

The package includes the 76CSJ cotton spear, matching 165T tapered weld-in sleeve, and PRO-Link’s patented Doublenut® locking system. Unlike a straight cross-bolt cotton stab, the 76CSJ uses a tapered mounting connection. Its mounting shank seats inside the matching collar, and the nut system draws the spear firmly into position.

76 Inch Cotton Spear for Round Cotton Modules

Large compressed cotton modules require specialized spears with enough length to reach deeply into the material. The 76 inch profile provides extended engagement, while the tapered working shape supports gradual penetration and controlled removal when the bale is placed.

Common applications include:

  • Moving round cotton modules from field staging areas
  • Positioning bales in cotton gin yards
  • Reorganizing modules in storage or loading zones
  • Supporting cotton processing and material-flow operations
  • Building or repairing specialized cotton-handling frames

The 76CSJ does not connect directly to a tractor, wheel loader, telehandler, or other carrier. It must be welded into a properly designed cotton bale frame with suitable structural support. Machine type alone does not establish compatibility. A qualified fabricator or equipment professional should verify the frame design, sleeve support, spear spacing, mounting alignment, weld requirements, and machine capacity.

Buyers can compare this assembly with other cotton bale spears and handling frames. Equipment requiring straight cross-hole retention uses a different system. The 84CS cross-bolt cotton stab is longer and locks through aligned holes rather than seating in a tapered sleeve, so the two models should not be treated as interchangeable.

165T Weld-In Sleeve and Doublenut® Installation

The included 165T collar is intended for permanent weld-in installation. Weld only the sleeve into suitable supporting steel. Remove the cotton spike and all fastening nuts before welding so installation heat is not transferred through the assembled mounting system.

A basic installation sequence includes:

  1. Confirm the sleeve location, support, and alignment on the frame.
  2. Remove the cotton spear and retaining hardware.
  3. Have a qualified fabricator weld the 165T sleeve into place.
  4. Allow the sleeve and surrounding frame to cool completely.
  5. Insert the tapered mounting shank into the sleeve.
  6. Install and tighten the conical retaining nut and secondary jam nut.

PRO-Link’s Doublenut® bale spear mounting guide explains how the conical nut draws the tapered shank into its seat while the jam nut helps resist vibration-related loosening. Inspect the sleeve, nuts, threads, spear, surrounding welds, and frame regularly. Correct any loose, cracked, bent, distorted, or excessively worn component before returning the equipment to service.

No numerical working capacity is currently published for the 76CSJ. Do not estimate a rating from its diameter, length, weight, or appearance. The finished cotton attachment is limited by its lowest-rated component, including the carrier, coupler or hitch, frame, welds, sleeve, retaining hardware, and installed spears.

The HAYSTIX® 76CSJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects.

Questions & Answers

What comes with the 76CSJ tapered cotton spike?

The complete assembly includes the 2 inch by 76 inch cotton spear, matching 165T tapered weld-in sleeve, and patented Doublenut® retaining system. The cotton frame and machine connection are not included.

How is the 76CSJ secured in its sleeve?

The tapered mounting shank seats inside the 165T sleeve. A conical retaining nut draws the spear into position, and a secondary jam nut helps resist loosening during repeated handling cycles.

What equipment can use this 76 inch tapered cotton spike?

It may be integrated into properly engineered cotton bale handlers, loader or telehandler attachments, gin equipment, and custom cotton frames. Compatibility depends on correct fabrication, support, alignment, spear spacing, and equipment capacity; it is not a universal direct-fit component.
