The HAYSTIX® SM55TXJ 55 inch replacement bale spear is a spear-only service part for compatible bale-handling attachments that already have a usable tapered sleeve. It measures 55 inches long by 1.75 inches in diameter, has a square Conus II profile, and is rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30 inch load center. The extended tine provides deep engagement for properly sized large round bales and other dense baled feed.

No sleeve or collar is included. The SM55TXJ is intended for an existing 144T Conus II sleeve or another correctly matched mount that seats the same taper, threads, nut arrangement, and dimensions. This allows an owner to replace a worn, bent, cracked, or missing spear without cutting a serviceable collar from the frame.

Extra Reach for Large Bale Work

The 55 inch length reaches farther into a suitable bale than shorter HAYSTIX® models. That additional penetration can help a properly designed carrier maintain engagement while loading trailers, moving feed from storage, stacking bales, or delivering hay to livestock. It may be used with large round bales, dense square bales, straw, silage, haylage, or cornstalk bales when the complete attachment and machine are approved for the material.

Its gradual Conus II shape separates compressed fibers as the point enters instead of forcing the full shaft width into the bale immediately. During withdrawal, the tapered form reduces shaft contact as the spear leaves the material. This can support smoother release from tightly packed feed. The square profile can also be oriented to match the layout of a properly designed single-spear or multi-spear carrier.

Longer reach does not increase the published capacity or correct an unsuitable attachment design. Spear position, bale size, travel speed, loader angle, terrain, stabilizer placement, and frame structure all affect load control. Operators should engage a stable portion of the bale, keep it low during travel, and avoid sudden starts, stops, or turns.

Confirming Sleeve Condition and Doublenut® Fit

Before ordering, compare the existing component with the SM55TXJ. Confirm the 55 inch length, 1.75 inch square profile, Conus II tapered mounting end, threads, nut system, and available clearance behind the sleeve. Diameter alone does not establish compatibility. The internal taper, seating depth, thread clearance, and retaining hardware must also match.

Inspect the installed collar and surrounding frame before choosing a spear-only repair. A sleeve that is cracked, distorted, loose, heavily worn internally, damaged around its welds, or unable to hold the taper correctly should not be reused. During installation, the tapered shank seats inside the collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the matching surfaces together, and the jam nut locks against it to help resist vibration-related loosening.
