Description

SM33TXJ 33-Inch Compact Hay Spike with Doublenut®

The HAYSTIX® SM33TXJ 33-inch compact hay spike is a spear-only replacement for compatible sleeve-mounted hay frames where a shorter working length is preferred. It combines a 33-inch by 1.75-inch square Conus II tine with PRO-Link’s patented Doublenut® mounting hardware. Rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center, the SM33TXJ provides a compact option for feeding, bale placement, and equipment layouts where a 49- or 55-inch spear would add unnecessary reach.

No sleeve or collar is included. PRO-Link uses the 144T weld-in sleeve with the complete 33TXJ assembly, but the replacement spear is not limited to that product number. Another properly fitting collar designed to seat the same 1.75-inch tapered mounting profile may be compatible when its internal dimensions, seating depth, thread clearance, and supporting structure match correctly.

Short Bale Spear for Feeding and Compact Equipment

The square shaft gradually narrows toward the point, helping the hay tine enter packed material progressively. Its 33-inch length may improve maneuvering clearance in tighter barns, pens, storage areas, or feeding locations when the shorter engagement is appropriate for the bale and frame arrangement. The compact design can also reduce unnecessary tine projection when an attachment is parked or moved without a bale.

Farmers may handle alfalfa, Bermuda grass, prairie hay, clover, mixed-grass hay, wheat straw, haylage, silage, or other baled feed. Moisture and compression change both weight and penetration resistance. Wet hay or dense forage can be much heavier than dry material with similar dimensions, so a shorter bale stab should never be selected by bale appearance alone.

The 33-inch reach can suit certain compact round bales, smaller square bales, feeding bales, or multi-spear layouts. It should not automatically be treated as suitable for every large round or rectangular bale. Buyers must consider whether the tine reaches far enough into the load, whether stabilizers are required, how multiple spears are spaced, and where the bale’s center of gravity sits relative to the frame.

When installed in the correct carrier, the SM33TXJ may serve as a compact tractor hay spear, a skid steer bale spike, or a short hay fork for a bale mover or feeding attachment. Tractor front-end loaders may use compatible frames around livestock areas, while skid steers can maneuver through narrower workspaces. AG-GO builds different hay-frame styles using varied spear lengths and mounting systems, so the specific frame must be confirmed before ordering.

Machine category alone does not establish fit. The sleeve, tine placement, spacing, frame strength, coupler, operating clearance, attachment rating, and carrying machine must all suit the intended bale.

Compatible Sleeve and Doublenut® Installation

Before installing the SM33TXJ, inspect the existing collar, internal seat, surrounding steel, and welds. Do not reuse a sleeve that is cracked, distorted, heavily corroded, excessively worn, loose in the frame, or unable to hold the hay sticker correctly. The 144T Conus II sleeve is available separately when the mount also needs replacement.

Insert the spear’s tapered mounting end through the compatible collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the matching surfaces together, and the second jam nut locks against it to help resist loosening during vibration and repeated bale-handling cycles. The included Doublenut® system must have adequate thread clearance behind the frame.

The published 3,500-pound rating applies to the individual tine at the stated load center. It does not increase the capacity of an existing collar, welds, frame, coupler, tractor, skid steer, loader, or other machine. Follow the lowest applicable rating and keep the load low while traveling.

Inspect the point, square shaft, taper, threads, nuts, sleeve, welds, and attachment regularly. Stop use if a component becomes loose, bent, cracked, distorted, or excessively worn. The SM33TXJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete terms.
