Description

The HAYSTIX® 246CXJ 24-inch curved bale spear is a complete tine-and-sleeve assembly for building or repairing a properly designed hay-handling attachment. Its compact 24-inch by 1.375-inch tapered tine is rated at 1,800 pounds at a 30-inch load center. Its curved profile and short reach suit specialty attachment positions.

The assembly includes the curved spear, compatible 110T Conus I weld-in sleeve, and and Doublenut® retaining hardware. Because the model does not begin with “S,” buyers receive both the working tine and its specified mounting component.

Compact Support for Specialty Bale Attachments

A shorter tine can serve a different purpose than the main spear in an engineered bale carrier. Depending on the frame design, the 246CXJ may help stabilize a suitable bale, provide secondary support beside longer tines, or fit a compact location with limited working clearance. Its curved geometry changes the point’s approach and may provide useful clearance around the frame, feeder, barn, or trailer.

The 24-inch length should not be treated as a universal stabilizer specification. The fabricator must determine the correct number of tines, spacing, orientation, projection, and supporting steel for the intended bale and machine. Buyers comparing compact, straight, and curved options can review PRO-Link’s HAYSTIX® 1-3/8-inch bale spears and specialty tines.

The bend is part of the original product shape and should not be confused with accidental damage. During inspection, compare the tine with its intended profile. A new bend, twist, crack, damaged point, thread problem, or serious wear means the spear should be removed from service. The 246CXJ is intended for suitable baled material—not prying, digging, removing posts, or lifting unrelated objects.

Its tapered point enters compressed bale fibers gradually, while the slim 1.375-inch body suits properly configured equipment handling round or square bales of hay, straw, alfalfa, silage, and other dense feed. Operators should engage a stable area of the bale, operate smoothly, and carry the load low during travel.

Installing the 110T Sleeve and Doublenut® Hardware

The included 110T collar must be welded into suitable supporting steel in a properly engineered frame. Remove the tine, nuts, and other mounting parts before welding. A qualified fabricator should determine the collar’s direction, projection, alignment, surrounding steel, weld preparation, tine spacing, curve orientation, operating clearance, and finished frame strength.

After the sleeve and frame have cooled, inspect the welds and remove debris or weld spatter that could interfere with seating. The tapered shank then fits inside the Conus I collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the mating surfaces together, while the secondary jam nut locks against it to help resist vibration-related loosening. The square shank lets the installer turn the curved spear to the direction required by the attachment before final tightening. The Doublenut® bale spear mounting guide explains the system and its inspection requirements in greater detail.

The completed frame may be carried by a compatible tractor loader, skid steer, telehandler, three-point mover, or other agricultural machine. These equipment categories do not guarantee fit. The frame, coupler, tine layout, sleeve position, welds, clearances, ballast, and equipment ratings must support the intended application.

The published 1,800-pound capacity applies to the individual spear at the specified load center. It does not establish the capacity of the completed attachment or machine. Inspect the point, shaft, taper, nuts, collar, welds, and frame regularly, and stop operating if anything is loose, cracked, distorted, badly worn, or improperly seated. The 246CXJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to the published terms.

Questions & Answers

What is included with the 246CXJ?

The complete assembly includes the 24-inch curved tapered tine, compatible 110T Conus I weld-in sleeve, and Doublenut® retaining hardware.

Can this 24-inch curved bale spear be used as the main tine?

Its role depends on the engineered attachment. It may suit stabilizer, secondary-support, or specialty positions, but the frame designer must determine whether its length, location, and rating are appropriate.

Will the 246CXJ fit any tractor or skid-steer bale attachment?

No. Installation requires welding and correct fabrication. Verify the frame, coupler, collar location, curve orientation, tine spacing, clearances, machine limits, and capacity of the finished system.
