The HAYSTIX® 39FXJ 39-inch fluted hay spike is a complete Conus II spear-and-sleeve assembly for hay frames that need a shorter working length with a heavy-duty 1.75-inch tine. Its SUPERSTIX fluted profile is paired with the 144T weld-in collar and PRO-Link’s patented Doublenut® mounting system. The published capacity is 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center.

At 39 inches long, the 39FXJ provides more reach than compact 33-inch models while remaining shorter than the popular 49- and 55-inch HAYSTIX® options. That middle length can suit feeding attachments, multi-spear carriers, and equipment layouts where maneuvering clearance matters. The completed frame must still provide enough engagement and support for the actual bale.

Fluted Profile for Dense Hay and Controlled Release

The four-sided fluted shaft gradually narrows toward the point, helping the hay stab enter packed material progressively. The shaped surface can reduce the amount of material contacting the full shaft compared with a broad straight profile, supporting smoother withdrawal when unloading a trailer, opening a bale for feeding, or placing hay in a feeder.

Different forage materials behave differently on a tine. Alfalfa, Bermuda grass, prairie hay, clover, wheat straw, cornstalk bales, silage, and haylage vary in density, fiber structure, and moisture. Wet or wrapped material can be much heavier than dry hay with similar dimensions. Buyers must consider the bale’s actual weight and condition rather than assuming that a shorter spear automatically suits a dense load.

The 39-inch reach may work well with certain compact round bales, smaller dense bales, square feed bales, or multi-tine arrangements. Large round and rectangular bales may require longer engagement, additional spears, stabilizers, or different spacing. The frame designer should account for bale shape, width, center of gravity, and how the load will be lifted, carried, stacked, and released.

144T Collar and Doublenut® Retention

The included 144T Conus II sleeve is welded into suitable steel tubing or another supported frame location. Remove the spear and nuts before welding. A qualified fabricator should determine the collar direction, projection, alignment, supporting steel, and welding procedure.

Although the complete 39FXJ includes the 144T, the spear may also fit another properly sized collar designed to seat the same 1.75-inch Conus II mounting profile. Verify the inside diameter, taper, seating depth, structural support, thread clearance, and nut compatibility before mixing components.

The individual tine’s published rating does not increase the capacity of the collar installation, welds, frame, coupler, loader, or carrying machine. Always follow the lowest applicable rating. Keep bales low during travel and avoid sudden starts, stops, or turns.

Inspect the point, fluted shaft, mounting taper, threads, nuts, sleeve, welds, and frame regularly. Stop use if anything is loose, bent, cracked, distorted, or excessively worn.
