Description

The HAYSTIX® 436TXJ 43 inch tapered bale spike is a complete tine-and-sleeve assembly for building or repairing a properly engineered bale-handling frame. It measures 43 inches long by 1.375 inches in diameter and is rated at 1,700 pounds at a 30 inch load center. The assembly includes the matching 110T weld-in sleeve or collar, a conical retaining nut, and a jam nut used in PRO-Link’s patented Doublenut® system.

Its long, slim Conus I profile is especially useful in grouped tine frames used for large square bales and tightly packed feed material. The additional reach helps the spear engage farther into a suitable bale, while the smaller diameter creates less shaft contact than a larger bale tine. That combination can support smoother entry and release during loading, stacking, feeding, positioning, and unloading.

Long Conus I Profile for Large Bale Handling

The 436TXJ uses a gradual taper from the point through the working section of the spear. Instead of forcing a full-width shaft into compacted material immediately, the tapered shape separates the bale fibers progressively. This can make the spear easier to insert into dense hay and easier to withdraw when the operator places or unloads the bale.

A square shank allows the fabricator to rotate and align the tine for the planned frame layout before securing the mounting hardware. This is important when several spears are arranged across a square-bale carrier. Proper spacing, equal projection, and straight alignment help the tines share the load and keep the bale controlled. The frame must be designed for the selected number and position of spears; simply adding more tines does not automatically establish a higher attachment capacity.

The completed carrier may be used with a compatible tractor front-end loader, skid steer, or telehandler when the frame, coupler, clearances, and machine ratings support the application. The 436TXJ is not a universal direct-fit attachment. Its 1,700 pound rating applies only to the individual spear at the stated load center. The lowest-rated part of the machine, coupler, frame, welds, sleeves, hardware, or tines determines the working limit of the complete system.

Installing the 110T Sleeve and Doublenut® Hardware

The supplied 110T Conus I weld-in sleeve must be incorporated into suitable steel tubing or another properly engineered mounting location. Remove the spear and retaining nuts before welding. A qualified fabricator should determine the sleeve orientation, projection, alignment, surrounding steel, weld preparation, and finished frame strength. Allow the collar to cool and inspect the installation before inserting the spear.

After welding, the tapered shank seats inside the matching collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the mating surfaces together. The jam nut then locks against the conical nut to help resist loosening caused by vibration and repeated bale-handling cycles. The Doublenut® bale spear mounting system guide explains the connection, installation checks, and inspection points in more detail.

If the tine later requires replacement but the installed collar and frame remain serviceable, the S436TXJ replacement hay tine provides the corresponding spear-only option. Inspect the point, shaft, taper, threads, nuts, sleeve, frame, and welds regularly. Stop using the attachment if anything becomes loose, cracked, bent, distorted, or excessively worn. The assembly is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete warranty terms.

Questions & Answers

What is included with the 436TXJ?

The complete assembly includes the 43 inch by 1.375 inch Conus I bale spike, 110T weld-in sleeve or collar, conical retaining nut, and jam nut.

How is this 43 inch tapered bale spike mounted?

A qualified fabricator welds the empty 110T sleeve into the attachment frame. After the sleeve cools, the tapered shank seats inside it, the conical nut draws the connection tight, and the jam nut locks against the first nut.

Will the 436TXJ fit every tractor or skid steer bale frame?

No. Compatibility depends on the frame design, coupler, sleeve placement, tine spacing, operating clearance, weld quality, and rated capacity of the complete machine and attachment.
