S396TXJ 39-Inch Replacement Bale Spear – Conus 1 Tapered

The HAYSTIX® S396TXJ 39-inch replacement bale spear is a spear-only tine for compatible attachments that already have a serviceable 110T sleeve. Measuring 39 inches long by 1.375 inches in diameter, it provides more reach than a 33-inch multipurpose tine while maintaining a slim profile for entering dense hay. The S396TXJ is rated at 1,700 pounds at a 30-inch load center and may be used for suitable round bales, square bales, silage, straw, alfalfa, and other baled feed.

This model uses a Conus 1 tapered mounting profile and PRO-Link’s Doublenut® retention system. Its 1.375-inch diameter places it in the multipurpose spear category, while the fastening system gives it the HAYSTIX® name. Because the model begins with “S,” no sleeve or collar is included. The corresponding complete 396TXJ assembly should be selected when the job also requires a new 110T weld-in collar.

Longer Reach with a Slim Conus 1 Profile

The 39-inch length allows the tine to engage farther into an appropriately sized bale. Deeper engagement can help a properly designed attachment maintain control while lifting, feeding, stacking, positioning, or unloading hay. Compared with a 33-inch tine, this model offers six additional inches of reach for applications where bale dimensions and frame layout call for a longer spear.

Its gradual Conus 1 taper separates compacted fibers as the point enters the bale. The 1.375-inch body presents a smaller profile than PRO-Link’s larger standard spear families, which can be useful in tightly packed, wet, frozen, or compressed material. During withdrawal, the tapered shape also reduces the amount of shaft surface held by the bale as the spear is removed.

Extra tine length does not increase the rated capacity of the spear, attachment, or loader. Bale size, density, moisture, spear position, and distance from the frame all affect the forces placed on the equipment. Operators should enter the dense center of the bale, keep the load low during transport, and avoid sharp turns or sudden stops, especially on uneven ground.

110T Sleeve Fit and Doublenut® Mounting

Before ordering, compare the existing tine’s length, diameter, Conus 1 taper, threaded end, and Doublenut® connection. The installed 110T sleeve must remain correctly aligned and in usable condition. If the collar is cracked, distorted, loose in the frame, heavily worn, or damaged around its welds, changing only the spear is not a suitable repair.

During installation, the tapered shank seats inside the matching collar. Tightening the first nut draws the taper firmly into position, and the second nut locks against the first to help resist loosening caused by vibration and repeated bale-handling cycles. The square shank allows the tine to be oriented correctly for the frame before the nuts are secured. Inspect the threads, tapered surfaces, sleeve, and hardware before assembly.

When installed in a compatible bale carrier, the S396TXJ may serve tractor or compact-tractor front-end loaders, skid-steer spear frames, telehandler attachments, three-point bale movers, or custom agricultural carriers. These machine categories do not guarantee fit. Compatibility depends on the complete attachment, coupler, sleeve placement, spear alignment, clearances, fabrication, and equipment ratings.

The published 1,700-pound rating applies to the individual tine at the stated load center. It does not establish the working capacity of the machine, frame, coupler, sleeve, welds, or finished bale mover. Always follow the lowest-rated part of the complete system.

Inspect the spear, nuts, collar, frame, and welds regularly. Stop operating if anything is loose, bent, cracked, excessively worn, or otherwise damaged. PRO-Link covers the S396TXJ with a one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects, subject to the complete warranty terms.

Questions & Answers

Does the S396TXJ include a 110T sleeve?

No. It is a spear-only model intended for an existing compatible 110T sleeve. Choose the complete 396TXJ assembly if a new weld-in collar is also required.

What should be checked before ordering this 39-inch replacement bale spear?

Confirm the old tine’s length, diameter, Conus 1 taper, threaded Doublenut® mounting, and sleeve model. Inspect the collar, frame, and welds to ensure a tine-only repair is appropriate.

Can the S396TXJ be used on a tractor or skid steer?

Yes, when installed in a compatible, properly rated bale attachment. Verify the frame, coupler, sleeve condition, spear position, clearances, fabrication, and machine capacity before operation.
