Description

The HAYSTIX® S336CXJ replacement crooked tine bale spear is a spear-only component for repairing a compatible bale-handling attachment. Its 33-inch by 1.375-inch tapered tine has an intentional curved profile that changes the point’s approach angle, helping a properly arranged attachment engage settled or low-lying hay when a straight spear is difficult to position. It is rated at 1,700 pounds at a 30-inch load center.

This Conus I multipurpose spear uses Doublenut® retention. Because the model begins with “S,” a sleeve or collar is not included. When the project also requires a new 110T weld-in collar and mounting hardware, select the complete 336CXJ crooked tine assembly.

Curved Tine for Settled and Low-Lying Bales

Hay may flatten during storage, settle into soft ground, or rest close enough to a surface that there is limited room for a straight approach. The deliberate curve in the S336CXJ changes how the point enters the bale. This can reduce the amount of loader tilt needed to line up the tine during winter feeding, pasture cleanup, feeder placement, barn work, or trailer loading.

Its 33-inch reach provides useful engagement without the additional projection of a longer primary spear. The tapered point enters compressed fibers gradually, while the slimmer 1.375-inch body suits properly configured equipment handling round or square bales of hay, straw, alfalfa, silage, and other compacted feed.

The curve is part of the product’s original shape—not evidence that the spear has been accidentally bent. Operators should know the intended profile so they can recognize new twisting, cracking, deformation, point damage, or serious wear. This curved bale tine is made for handling suitable bales and should not be used for prying, digging, removing posts, or lifting unrelated materials.

Confirming Sleeve Fit and Curve Orientation

The S336CXJ is a verified replacement for the 110T Conus I tapered spear sleeve when the installed collar, surrounding frame, and welds remain serviceable. Another sleeve should be considered only after verifying its taper, shank dimensions, threads, seating depth, nut arrangement, and working clearance. A 1.375-inch measurement by itself does not confirm compatibility.

During installation, the tapered shank seats inside the matching collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the mating surfaces together, and the secondary jam nut locks against it to help resist vibration-related loosening. The square shank allows the curved tine to be turned to the position required by the attachment before final tightening. PRO-Link’s Doublenut® mounting-system guide provides more detail about tapered sleeves, nuts, fit checks, and inspection.

Correct orientation is particularly important with this model. The bend must face the direction specified by the frame design, with enough clearance for the bale, ground, attachment, and machine throughout the operating range. A cracked, loose, distorted, or badly worn collar should not be reused. If sleeve or frame repair is needed, it should be completed by a qualified fabricator familiar with bale-handling equipment.

The published rating applies only to the individual spear at the specified load center. The machine, coupler, frame, sleeve, welds, ballast, hydraulics, and attachment may have lower limits. Ohio State University Extension’s tractor-loader and bale-handling safety guidance recommends using an appropriate bale attachment, staying within loader limits, operating smoothly, and carrying the bale slowly and as low as practical.

Inspect the tine, taper, threads, nuts, collar, frame, and welds regularly. Stop operating if anything is loose, cracked, seriously worn, improperly seated, or otherwise damaged. The S336CXJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to the published terms.

Questions & Answers

Does the S336CXJ include a 110T sleeve?

No. It is a spear-only replacement. Choose the complete 336CXJ assembly when a new 110T weld-in collar and applicable retaining hardware are also needed.

How should this replacement crooked tine bale spear be positioned?

The square mounting shank allows the curve to be oriented for the attachment before the nuts are tightened. Confirm the required direction, operating clearance, and frame design before use.

Can the S336CXJ be used on tractor or skid-steer attachments?

Yes, when installed in a compatible, properly rated bale carrier. Machine type alone does not establish fit; verify the sleeve, curve orientation, frame, coupler, fabrication, clearances, and capacity of the complete system.
