Description
The HAYSTIX® S396TXJ 39-inch replacement bale spear is a spear-only tine for repairing a compatible hay-handling attachment. It measures 39 inches long by 1.375 inches in diameter, uses a Conus I tapered mounting profile, and is rated at 1,700 pounds at a 30-inch load center. Its slim profile and medium-length reach suit properly configured equipment used with round bales, square bales, straw, alfalfa, silage, and other dense baled feed.
Because the model begins with “S,” it does not include a new sleeve or collar. The S396TXJ is the replacement-tine option when the installed 110T sleeve and surrounding frame remain serviceable. Buyers who need a new weld-in collar should choose the complete 396TXJ spear-and-sleeve assembly.
39-Inch Conus I Tine for Replacement Service
The 39-inch length gives this multipurpose hay spear six inches more reach than a 33-inch tine. That difference may be useful when the bale size, spear position, and attachment layout call for deeper engagement. The correct length still depends on the frame, bale dimensions, available clearance, and the way the attachment supports and controls the load.
The gradual taper helps the point enter compacted material and release from hay during unloading, stacking, feeding, or placement. Its 1.375-inch body gives it a slimmer working profile than PRO-Link’s larger standard spear families. This can make the tine useful in dense, moisture-heavy, frozen, or tightly packed bales when the complete attachment is designed for the material and load.
Extra length does not add capacity. The 1,700-pound rating applies to the individual spear at the stated 30-inch load center. The loader, tractor, skid steer, telehandler, coupler, frame, sleeve, welds, ballast, and other supporting components may have lower limits. The lowest-rated part determines the working capacity of the complete bale mover.
Matching the Sleeve and Doublenut® Connection
The S396TXJ is a verified replacement for the 110T Conus I tapered spear sleeve when that collar remains correctly installed and undamaged. Another sleeve should be considered compatible only after confirming the complete mounting profile, including the internal taper, shank dimensions, thread size, seating depth, nut arrangement, and working clearance. Diameter alone cannot establish fit.
During assembly, the tapered shank seats inside the matching collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the mating surfaces together, and the secondary jam nut locks against the first nut to help resist vibration-related loosening. The square shank can be oriented for the frame before the nuts are secured. PRO-Link’s Doublenut® bale spear mounting-system guide explains how tapered HAYSTIX® models differ from cross-bolt and bracketed spears.
Before installation, clean and inspect the taper, threads, nuts, collar, welds, and surrounding frame. A cracked, distorted, loose, or badly worn sleeve should not be reused simply to avoid replacing the collar. Never weld the sleeve while the spear or retaining hardware is installed. Frame repair or collar replacement should be completed by a qualified fabricator familiar with bale-handling equipment.
Inspect the point, shaft, mounting end, nuts, sleeve, frame, and welds regularly. Stop using the attachment if any part becomes loose, bent, cracked, seriously worn, or otherwise damaged. Keep the bale low during travel and avoid sharp turns or sudden stops, particularly on rough or sloped ground. The S396TXJ is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to the published terms.
Questions & Answers
Does the S396TXJ include a 110T sleeve?
No. The S396TXJ is a spear-only replacement. Select the complete 396TXJ assembly if the project requires the tine, 110T weld-in sleeve, and applicable retaining hardware.
Will this 39-inch replacement bale spear fit every 1.375-inch collar?
No. Confirm the Conus I taper, threads, seating depth, nut arrangement, sleeve condition, and clearance. A matching nominal diameter is not enough to guarantee proper fit.
Can the S396TXJ be installed on a tractor or skid-steer bale mover?
Yes, when the machine carries a properly designed attachment with a compatible sleeve and adequate capacity. Machine type alone does not confirm fit; verify the coupler, frame, spear position, fabrication, clearances, and every applicable equipment rating.
