165BU Bolt On Hay Tine Bracket for 3 Inch Tubing

Description

The 165BU bolt on hay tine bracket is a standard-duty mounting component for specified 1.625 inch straight cross-bolt bale spears. It clamps to compatible hay frames made with 3 inch by 3 inch square tubing, giving farmers, repair shops and equipment builders a serviceable alternative to welding a spear collar permanently into the frame.

The standalone package includes the 165BU bracket and two 58X3U U-bolt assemblies with their matching flat washers and nuts. The hay tine and separate spear-retaining cross-bolt hardware are not included. Those parts must match the complete 39SB or 48SB configuration being assembled.

This setup can be useful when repairing a bracketed bale mover, adding a spear to a suitable new frame or replacing damaged mounting hardware while keeping the bracket accessible for future inspection and service.

Two Mounting Connections with Different Jobs

The 165BU system uses one connection to mount the bracket and another to retain the spear. The two included 58X3U U-bolt assemblies wrap around the 3 inch by 3 inch frame tubing and pass through the bracket’s mounting holes. Their washers and nuts clamp the bracket against the tube without requiring the bracket to be welded in place.

A separate cross-bolt retains the correctly matched hay tine inside the bracket. After the spear is inserted and its holes align with the bracket, the proper retaining bolt passes through both components and is secured with the matching hardware. The U-bolts do not hold the spear inside the bracket, and the spear-retaining cross-bolt does not attach the bracket to the frame.

Before installation, measure the frame tubing and inspect the mounting area. Heavy paint, weld beads, dents, reinforcing plates, corrosion, crushed walls or an incompatible corner radius may prevent the U-bolts and bracket from seating evenly. The tubing and surrounding frame must provide adequate strength, clearance and support for the intended spear position and bale.

Tighten both U-bolts gradually and evenly so the bracket remains square against the tubing. Do not force a retaining bolt through misaligned spear and bracket holes. Recheck the bracket position, U-bolts and retaining hardware after the first operating cycles and during normal equipment inspections.

39SB and 48SB Bracketed Hay Spear Configurations

The 165BU is the specified bracket for two PRO-Link Hayspears® assemblies:

• Pair the bracket with the 39SS fluted cross-bolt spear and required retention hardware to create the 39SB 39 inch bracketed hay spear.
• Pair it with the S48S fluted cross-bolt spear and required retention hardware to create the 48SB 48 inch bracketed hay fork.

Do not select a replacement tine using the 1.625 inch diameter alone. The straight mounting profile, shank dimensions, insertion depth, cross-hole position and required retaining hardware must also match. The 155BU and 165BU are different bracket models and should not be treated as interchangeable merely because both serve selected 1.625 inch spear configurations.

A properly matched 165BU assembly may be installed on suitable tractor-loader hay frames, skid steer bale movers, three-point carriers and custom agricultural equipment. These applications do not establish direct fit with every frame or machine. Buyers must confirm tubing dimensions, bracket position, spear clearance, frame strength, coupler geometry and carrier limits.

The 165BU does not determine the capacity of the completed bale attachment. Safe working capacity is controlled by the lowest-rated component, including the spear, bracket, U-bolts, cross-bolt, frame, coupler and machine.
