Description

STAB1 Hay Bale Stabilizer for Tractor Hay Spear – 17-Inch

The HAYSTIX® STAB1 bale stabilizer for tractor hay spear frames is a 17-inch secondary tine designed to help control bale rotation and side-to-side movement. It works beside one or more primary bale spears, adding another contact point that can improve positioning during lifting, transport, stacking, and livestock feeding.

The STAB1 is not intended to replace the main load-carrying spear, and it does not increase the published capacity of a loader or attachment. Its job is to help steady the bale while the primary hay tine or tines support the load. The short profile also helps provide stabilization without requiring the same penetration depth as the main spear.

Secondary Support for Round, Square, and Dense Bales

Round bales can try to rotate around a single primary spear, especially while traveling across ruts, turning, or positioning hay near a feeder. Properly placed stabilizer tines add contact away from the main spear and can help limit that movement. On square-bale frames, secondary spikes can also help control shifting when the attachment layout is designed for the bale’s shape and weight.

The 17-inch STAB1 may support handling control for:

  • Large and medium round hay bales
  • Square hay and straw bales
  • Wet or unevenly packed hay
  • Haylage and silage bales
  • Cornstalk bales and other dense crop material
  • Loads being positioned around barns, feeders, trailers, or bale stacks

Actual results depend on where the stabilizer is mounted, how deeply it engages the bale, the number and spacing of primary spears, and the condition of the forage. Bale diameter, width, density, moisture, wrapping, and center of gravity should all be considered when laying out the frame. Wrapped silage or haylage also requires care to limit film damage.

The STAB1 can complement HAYSTIX® bale spears, Hayspears® hay tines, tapered spear systems, straight cross-bolt models, and other properly engineered primary-spear arrangements. That does not mean it directly fits every attachment. The mounting surface, frame material, stabilizer position, hardware, weld procedure, and clearance must be confirmed for the specific build.

Weld-On or Bolt-On Installation for Compatible Hay Frames

Depending on the attachment design, the STAB1 can be welded to a compatible frame or bolted into a properly prepared mounting location. A weld-on installation should be completed by a qualified person using a procedure suited to the frame and stabilizer materials. A bolt-on setup requires correctly sized mounting points and appropriate hardware for the application. Mounting hardware is not described as included, so verify what is required before installation.

Common frame applications include:

  • Tractor-loader and front-end loader bale spear frames
  • Skid steer hay spear attachments
  • Three-point bale movers and livestock feeding equipment
  • Telehandler hay frames
  • Compatible AG-GO hay-handling attachments
  • Retrofit repairs and custom agricultural fabrication

Place the stabilizer where it can engage the bale without interfering with the primary spear, attachment connection, loader arms, or operator visibility. The fabricator should also consider whether the location creates unwanted leverage or stress in the frame. The correct arrangement may differ between a single-spear round-bale attachment and a multiple-tine square-bale mover.

High-strength steel construction supports repeated agricultural use when the tine is installed correctly. Inspect the stabilizer, mounting hardware or welds, frame, and primary spear system before operating. Remove bent, cracked, loose, or badly worn parts from service. Never use the STAB1 as a lifting point, step, towing connection, or substitute for a rated primary bale spear.

The capacity of the complete hay attachment remains limited by its lowest-rated component, including the machine, quick-attach connection, frame, primary spears, sleeves, brackets, hardware, and welds. The STAB1 is covered by PRO-Link’s one-year limited warranty against manufacturer’s defects.

Questions & Answers

What does the STAB1 do on a bale spear frame?

The 17-inch secondary tine adds another contact point to help limit bale rotation and side-to-side shifting. It supports control but does not replace the primary load-carrying spear.

Can the STAB1 be welded or bolted to an attachment?

Yes, depending on the compatible frame design. Confirm the mounting location, frame material, welding requirements, bolt pattern, hardware, and clearance before choosing either installation method.

Does this stabilizer increase attachment capacity?

No. The HAYSTIX® STAB1 bale stabilizer for tractor hay spear frames helps control bale movement, but it does not raise the rated capacity of the machine, frame, or primary spear system.
