Description

The HAYSTIX® SM43TXJ 43 inch replacement hay spear is a spear-only service component for a compatible tapered bale attachment. Its 43 inch by 1.75-inch square profile uses a Conus II mounting end and PRO-Link’s Doublenut® retention system. Rated at 3,500 pounds at a 30-inch load center, the tine provides useful engagement for properly supported round bales, large square bales, silage, straw, alfalfa, and other dense baled feed.

The SM43TXJ includes the replacement spear and retaining nuts, but no sleeve or collar. It is intended for an existing 144T weld-in sleeve that remains correctly installed and serviceable, or another properly matched Conus II mounting system. Replacing only the worn tine can return an otherwise sound carrier to work without cutting an undamaged collar from the frame.

Replacement Tine for 144T Sleeves and AG-GO Frames

Before ordering, compare the old component’s model number, 43 inch length, 1.75-inch square profile, Conus II tapered shank, threads, and Doublenut® arrangement. The 144T is the verified sleeve supplied with the related complete 43TXJ tapered bale-tine assembly. Choose that complete model when the repair also requires a new weld-in collar.

A different sleeve may be suitable only when its internal taper, seating depth, shank dimensions, thread size, nut arrangement, and working clearance all match. Nominal inside diameter alone cannot confirm fit. Reusing a collar is appropriate only when its internal seat, surrounding frame steel, and welds remain in acceptable condition.

The SM43TXJ is also the verified replacement spear used in the AG-GO U7264-436 square hay bale frame. That attachment carries seven 43 inch tines. When servicing it, inspect the neighboring spears, collars, retaining hardware, welds, and frame structure so a problem affecting more than one position is not overlooked.

Its 43 inch reach allows useful penetration into suitable bales during feeding, stacking, staging, unloading, and trailer work. The gradual taper helps the point enter compressed material and release from dense hay. Operators should engage a stable section of the bale, move smoothly, and keep the load low during transport.

The published rating applies to one spear at the stated load center. It does not establish or increase the capacity of the frame, coupler, loader, welds, attachment, or machine. Bale weight varies with dimensions, crop, density, and moisture, so the lowest-rated part of the complete system sets the working limit.

Conus II Seating and Doublenut® Retention

During installation, clean and inspect the tapered surfaces, threads, nuts, and sleeve. The Conus II shank seats inside the matching collar. Tightening the conical nut draws the mating surfaces together, and the secondary jam nut locks against it to help resist vibration-related loosening. Orient the square shank as required by the attachment before final tightening.

PRO-Link’s Doublenut® bale spear mounting guide explains the tapered connection, hardware sequence, compatibility checks, and inspection requirements. The second nut supports the connection, but it does not eliminate the need to inspect or maintain the spear assembly.

When installed in a compatible frame, this replacement bale spike may be used on attachments carried by tractor front-end loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, or other suitable agricultural machines. Equipment category alone does not establish fit. Confirm the sleeve, frame layout, spear spacing, coupler, clearances, weld quality, ballast, and complete equipment capacity.

Remove the spear from service if it becomes loose, bent, cracked, severely worn, damaged at the mounting end, or difficult to seat correctly. A distorted, cracked, loose, or badly worn sleeve should not be reused simply to avoid fabrication work. PRO-Link covers the SM43TXJ with a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to the published terms.

Questions & Answers

Does the SM43TXJ include a 144T sleeve?

No. The product includes the 43 inch replacement spear and retaining nuts. Select the complete 43TXJ assembly when a new 144T weld-in sleeve is also required.

Will this 43 inch replacement hay spear fit every Conus II sleeve?

No. Confirm the internal taper, shank dimensions, threads, seating depth, nut arrangement, operating clearance, and condition of the existing collar before installation.

Is the SM43TXJ used on the AG-GO U7264-436 frame?

Yes. PRO-Link identifies the SM43TXJ as the 43 inch tine used in that seven-spear square-bale frame. Verify the attachment model and inspect the complete frame before replacing an individual spear.
